SEND and Inclusion at Cranford Primary School

At Cranford Primary School, inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child has the right to feel valued, included and successful, and we are committed to ensuring that all pupils are able to access high-quality learning, participate fully in school life and achieve their potential.

We recognise that every child is unique. Some children may need additional or different support at particular points in their school journey, including pupils with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). Our approach is centred on high expectations, early identification and removing barriers to learning, while developing children's confidence, independence and ability to advocate for themselves.

Our approach to SEND

We aim to identify children's needs as early as possible and work in partnership with pupils, parents and carers to understand the support that will help them thrive.

Our teachers are responsible for the progress and development of every pupil in their class. Through high-quality, inclusive teaching, appropriate adaptations and carefully planned support, we aim to ensure that children with SEND learn alongside their peers wherever possible.

Where a child requires additional support, we use the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle to understand their needs, put appropriate provision in place and evaluate its impact. Where necessary, we work closely with external professionals and services to provide more specialist advice and support.

Inclusion at CPS

Our commitment to inclusion extends beyond SEND. We recognise and respond to the individual needs and circumstances of all our pupils, including those who may experience barriers to learning, participation, attendance or wellbeing.

We are committed to creating a school where difference is understood, respected and celebrated and where every child has a strong sense of belonging.

We work to ensure that children:

  • have equitable access to the curriculum and wider school opportunities;
  • receive the right support at the right time;
  • are encouraged to become increasingly independent and resilient;
  • have their views heard and are involved in decisions about their support;
  • feel safe, respected and included within our school community; and
  • are supported to achieve ambitious outcomes.

Working in partnership with families

Parents and carers know their children best, and we believe that strong partnerships between home and school are essential.

We encourage families to speak to us if they have concerns about their child's learning, development or wellbeing. We will listen carefully, work collaboratively and agree appropriate next steps.

Our SEND Information Report provides further information about how we identify and support pupils with SEND, the provision available at CPS and how families can access additional advice and support.

At CPS, inclusion means more than simply being present. It means belonging, participating, being heard and having the opportunity to succeed.
