English in Year 6

Spring 2 learning in English in Year 6

This half term, we will be concentrating on reading skills and applying them to different question types, in order to help us comprehend what we are reading.   We will also have a focus each day on SPAG and we expect for this to be incorporated into your child's writing homework each week.

In addition to the above, your child will still be given a spelling list each week and they will be tested on them the following Friday.  It is vitally important that your child does learn these spellings - not only for their SATs, but also for everyday use.

We will also be including some 'quick write' sessions each week into your child's learning.  Writing is also completed by your child during Science and Topic lessons, where we do expect your child to transfer their skills from English into this learning.

Spring Term learning in English:

We continue to learn and revise concepts in SPAG.  Once again, the children are reminded to include these into their own writing.

This half term, children will be studying and learning about how to write a flashback story.  Can you think of any movies where there are flashbacks included?  How did the maker of the film let the audience know that the character was entering their flashback?

In the latter end of this half term, children will be studying a new Power of Reading book.  Watch this space for more information...

In Year 6, we have already completed a lot of writing, alongside SPAG concepts (Spelling Punctuation and Grammar).

This half term, we are learning about the story of Anne Frank.  The story is very interesting and has allowed us to complete a variety of writing already: descriptions, diary entries, predications.

We are looking forward to taking the children all the way through the story in what was such an important event in our world's history.
