Year 4 Overview and Parental Workshop for Summer 1

Year 4 Swimming


Year 4 will be taking part in swimming lessons throughout the year.

Summer 1:
23th April -21st May
Summer 2:
4th June - 2nd July


Please ensure your child comes to school in their full school uniform. In a bag they should bring:


  • a towel
  • girls need a one piece swimsuit
  • boys require swimming trunks (these should be above the knee)
  • a swimming hat


Please ensure all jewellery is removed prior to your child coming to school on swimming days.


If you have any questions, please ask your child's class teacher.

What are we learning this Summer term?


English: We will be reading 'Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters' and other Cinderella stories from different cultures during Summer 1. We will be reading 'Hot like Fire and other poems' during Summer 2.


Maths: We will be learning about Money and Measure problems, Position and Direction and Negative Numbers. We will be spending time on Maths Mastery Problems for homework and during lessons.


Science: We will be learning about The Water Cycle and finishing with our Sound-Vibrations topic


Topic: We will be learning about Riotous Royalty in Britain for our History Topic and moving onto finding out more about Spain in Geography lessons.


DT: We will be evaluating, designing and making our own slippers.


RE: We will be learning about 'Food in religion' and 'Sacred books'


Music: We will continue to learn how to play the clarinet,trombone and the tenor-horn.

Handed in late- children miss playtime.
Handed in late consistently- letter home.
Homework should be completed neatly and to a good standard as this helps to build good habits.
Please check that your child is bringing home and completing their homework, if not, please speak to your child’s teacher.
Children will receive English and Maths homework each week as well as spellings.

Please sign your child’s reading record and remind your children to bring their reading record in on a Thursday so we can change their reading books.
